My Reflection – One Family, One Heart in Prayer

For the first time, five congregations came together on a Saturday evening to worship and pray. It was a joy to see so many Lutherans gathered in one place. We are one family—familiar in our shared faith, yet in many ways still strangers to one another.

The theme, “Unite Our Hearts to God’s Heart in Prayer,” beautifully captured the spirit of the evening. It felt like a small but significant first step towards something much greater. For many years, each congregation has faithfully journeyed on its own. Yet how often have we intentionally carried one another’s joys, burdens, needs, and concerns before God?

I see this gathering as an open door for God to unite us more deeply as one Lutheran family. One of the most meaningful moments was hearing each congregation present its prayer requests. As we prayed for one another, we also came to know one another better. Prayer became more than an individual or congregational act—it became a shared expression of our unity in Christ.

As I reflected on the evening, several questions came to mind. How often should we gather like this? Could each congregation take turns leading the worship and prayer, with different worship teams and prayer leaders serving in turn? Or should these gatherings grow more organically, led by a genuine hunger to seek God together? How do we ensure that they never become just another item on our calendars, but remain sacred occasions where prayer is treasured as the privilege of drawing near to our Heavenly Father? May our motivation never be driven by routine or obligation, but by hearts that long to seek God together and intercede for one another.

Most importantly, how can our hearts truly beat as one Lutheran family? Perhaps one way is to include a short testimony at each LCS prayer gathering. Hearing how God has been at work in a congregation or in someone’s life would encourage our faith, deepen our understanding of one another, and remind us that God is faithfully working across all our congregations.

My prayer is that this first gathering will not simply be remembered as a successful event, but as the beginning of a growing movement of unity. May God continue to draw our congregations closer together—not just in shared meetings, but in shared hearts, shared prayers, and a shared mission to glorify Him.

我的反思 —— 同一家人，同一颗在祷告中合一的心

五个堂会首次在一个周六傍晚齐聚，一同敬拜与祷告。看见这么多信义会信徒汇聚一堂，令人欣喜。我们是一家人 —— 在共同的信仰里彼此熟悉，但在许多方面却仍对彼此陌生。

当晚的主题“在祷告中我们的心与神的心联合”，优美地呈现了聚会的精神。这仿佛是小而重要的一步，迈向更伟大的意义。这么多年来，各堂会都忠心地各自前行。然而，我们又有多少次有意地把彼此的喜乐、重担、需要与挂虑带到神面前呢？

我将这次聚会视为一扇神为我们敞开的门，使我们更深入地合成为一个信义会的大家庭。其中最有意义的时刻之一，是听见各堂会分享代祷事项。当我们彼此代求时，也更加认识彼此。祷告不再只是个人或单一堂会的举动 — 它成了我们在基督里合一的共同表达。

当我回想这一晚，有几个问题浮现在心中。我们是否应该举办多一些这样的聚会？是否可以由各堂会轮流带领敬拜与祷告，让不同的敬拜团队与祷告带领者轮流服事？或是让这些聚会更自然地成长，由我们彼此寻求神的真切渴慕来引导？我们当如何确保它们不沦为行事历上的又一项活动，而始终是神圣的时刻 —— 在其中，祷告被珍视为亲近天父的特权？愿我们的动机不被惯例或义务驱使，而是出自渴望一同寻求神的心意、彼此代祷。

更重要的是，我们的心如何才能真正以一个信义宗家庭的节拍同频？也许其中一条路径，就是在每次联合祷告聚会中加入简短的见证。倾听神如何在某个堂会或某个人的生命中作工，会坚固我们的信心、加深我们彼此的了解，并提醒我们：神正信实地在所有堂会中运行。

我所祈求的，是这第一次的祷告聚会不只是被记得为一场成功的活动，而是作为一个合一运动的开端，持续增长。愿神继续拉近我们各堂会之间的距离—— 不只是在共同的聚会里，更是在共同的信心、共同的祷告，以及共同荣耀祂的使命上合一。

Unite Our Hearts to God’s Heart in Prayer

Do we despise the days of small beginnings? In this article, I pen the voices of about 10 persons who submitted feedback.

History is mostly presented through a military, political or economic lens but the Bible presents history through the lens of families. The gathering was like cracking open a door for God to unite us more deeply as one Lutheran family. For many years, each congregation has faithfully journeyed on its own. This day, we intentionally gathered and incarnationally worshipped, listened, declared, prayed and bore one another’s burdens before our Heavenly Father.

It became a shared experience in a sacred space. I imagine there were angels in attendance. It was not another event. It should never become routine. Let our prayer times be touching heaven and changing earth. We see it as a growing movement of unity, of mutual encouragement almost akin to the Jews singing Songs of Ascents as they travelled to Jerusalem to worship each year.

One remarkable observation was we had a general expectation that about 30 to 40 people would turn up. However, Rev Ray printed 75 bulletins, and exactly 75 bulletins were given out! God does exceedingly abundantly beyond our mustard seed faith!

There is a desire for more time given to conversational or “Korean style” simultaneous prayer as some of the prayer points fell off the plate of petition for lack of time. Where the items were many, the prayer leader could assign different prayer points to different groups to ensure all items are covered. Perhaps some segments of congregational response, creed, the Lord’s Prayer and worship songs could be declared or sung simultaneously? After all, the central purpose of the meeting is to agree in the place of prayer. Groups of twos or threes would enable us to pray more deeply. Chairs that could be moved to form small groups would be helpful. Alternately standing and sitting as prayer leaders changed would improve participatory focus. More song breaks in between prayer builds faith.

It was an excellent idea for us to pray with members from other churches in the preferred language. Light refreshments after the meeting will deepen relationships and help us connect meaningfully.

The formation of the worship team was a miracle. Doris from QLC Chinese service was ready. But no musician and no English worship leader was available! After 9 to 10 worship leaders and musicians declined, I was on my knees. And God provided the team on 7 July! I could sense the strong presence of God in the singing and music.

E.M. Bounds says “Prayer outlives the lives of those who uttered them. Outlive a generation. Outlive an age. Outlive a world”.

Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” (I Sam 14:6).

May we continue to be willing in the day of prayer!

我们是否轻看那微小的起头？在这篇文章中，我写下了大约十位弟兄姐妹的共同心声。

历史往往是通过军事、政治或经济的视角来呈现，但圣经却是通过家庭的视角来叙述历史。这次的聚集，就像是推开了一扇门，让神更深地联合我们成为一个信义宗的大家庭。多年来，每个堂会都在各自的道路上忠心前行。而在这一天，我们有意地聚集在一起，以道成肉身的方式敬拜、聆听、宣告、祷告，并在天父面前彼此分担重担。

这成为大家在圣洁空间中的共同经历。我可以想象当天天使也在场。这不是另一个活动，也不该成为例行公事。愿我们的祷告时刻能触摸天堂、改变世界。我们视之为一个不断成长的合一运动，彼此鼓励，几乎就像犹太人每年上耶路撒冷敬拜时所唱的《上行之歌》。

一个令人惊讶的观察是，我们原本预期大约有30到40人出席。然而，Ray牧师印了75份程序单，结果正好75份全部发出！神在我们芥菜种子一样的信心之外，成就超过我们所求所想的事！

大家希望能有更多时间进行”对话式”或“韩国式 Korean Style”祷告，因为有些祷告事项因时间不足夠而未能顾及。当祷告事项比较多时，祷告领袖可以分配不同的祷告点给不同的小组，以确保所有事项都被覆盖。或许一些会众回应、信经、主祷文和诗歌可以同时宣告或唱出？毕竟，聚会的核心目的就是在祷告中同心合意。两三个人的小组能让我们更深入祷告。若椅子能夠被移动以方便围成小组则会更有帮助。祷告领袖更换时交替站立与坐下能提升参与者的专注度。祷告中间如果有更多的诗歌交替也许更加能建立信心。

这次祷告会让我们用自己熟悉的语言与其他教会的弟兄姐妹一起祷告，是一个极好的主意。如果会后有简单茶点，则更能够帮助我们有意义地交通、分享，加深彼此关系。

敬拜团队的形成简直是一个神迹。在祷告会之前几天，女皇镇信义会华文堂的Doris已准备好，但没有乐手，也没有英语敬拜领袖！在9到10位敬拜领袖和乐手都婉拒之后，我只能跪下祷告。而神就在7月7日预备了敬拜团队！当天晚上，我能夠感受到神在歌唱和音乐中的强烈同在。

E.M.Bounds 曾说：“祷告超越了祷告者的生命。超越一个世代。超越一个时代。超越整个世界。”

“或者耶和华为我们施行拯救，因为耶和华使人得胜，不在乎人多人少。”（撒母耳记上14:6）

愿我们在祷告的时光里继续保持这份赤子之心！
